Experience the thrill of the race together

Driving may be a solo sport but off the track motorsport enthusiasts are rarely alone. The Racing Club is for those who want to experience the thrill of the race together, swap stories and make the trackside as much fun as it can be.

Silverstone Racing Club (SRC) is the place for the keen motorsport enthusiast and is growing quickly as like-minded folk join up to enjoy superb racing – and each other’s company. Set between Woodcote and Luffield grandstands, on the outer edge of the Silverstone Circuit, we’re fortunate to have our own exclusive grandstand with superb views across the track and our own clubhouse. As well as enjoying this wonderful facility, SRC members can bring their own vehicles into the circuit at most events (apart from the Grand Prix and some promoted events) and park at the clubhouse or in our own parking area a short distance away.

Val Broadhurst looks after the SRC office and Peter Coney is the Steward who oversees the clubhouse during events. We let members know what’s happening by email.

  • History

The Silverstone Racing Club was started by a group of motor-racing enthusiasts in 1966 when it was known as The Silverstone Club. Some were competitors at Silverstone and all were great supporters of the circuit. It began in a caravan close to Woodcote Corner, but the late Jimmy Brown, ‘Mr Silverstone’, soon realised the Club would benefit from a permanent base and suggested raising money to build a permanent clubhouse. One hundred ‘life memberships’ were offered for sale, and the income provided the funds to build and equip the clubhouse. It officially opened at the British Grand Prix in 1967.

The founders of the Club were anxious to help ‘their’ circuit in any way possible. Any extra money the new Club earned was used on the circuit – and this ethos remains true today. Silverstone Racing Club is now part of Silverstone Circuits Ltd (which is owned by the BRDC).

Soon we were selling annual memberships alongside life memberships. Nearly half the original life members still maintain regular contact with the Club, along with some of the original annual members. Although in recent years SRC has been almost fully subscribed there are always opportunities for new members to join.

SRC members enjoy the clubhouse and the private grandstand during motor races – as well as the friendships they’ve made and the events held at Silverstone. And not just major events but our smaller ‘Club’ meetings too. We arrange social events all year round plus interviews with famous and up-and-coming racers and occasional external visits. We’ve grown a lot since 1966, and members now come from all over the world as we continue to provide a great meeting place for motorsport enthusiasts.
