The Avon Tyres British GT Championship and Cooper Tires British F3 International Series makes a welcome return to Silverstone half way through August for what has traditionally become a highly important round in the two championship fights.
The British F3 International Series, is one of the most competitive racing categories in existence, with one of the most recognisable names and reputations in world motor racing. Its former winners read like a Who's Who of motorsport nobility and legend: Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Nelson Piquet (Jr and Sr), Jenson Button, David Coulthard and Anthony Davidson have all been champions.
For 2010, the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series is all change with a revised qualifying session and new three race format, including an exciting reverse grid sprint event. For further information on the changes, please view our news article F3 Race and Qualifying Format Change Adds Spice
In 2009 however, Australian Daniel Ricciardo won the Championship, beating off stiff opposition from Walter Grubmuller and Renger Van Der Zande. With F3 regulations allowing different engine and chassis manufacturers, it's a thrilling championship where formbooks can be thrown out of the window at a moment's notice. To win the championship requires consistency, dedication and not a small amount of genuine skill.
Not to be missed, however, is the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, which joins the British F3 International Series this weekend at Silverstone. Headlining proceedings on Sunday will be the 2 hour GT race*, in which the very best in GT3 and GT4 racers compete for glory.
In 2009 Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin took their, and MTECH’s, first Avon Tyres British GT victory at Silverstone. However it was The Jones brothers of David and Godfrey, who won their maiden British GT Championship by just a single point from Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen.
