- The UTC is officially set to open on Friday 02 May 2014
Silverstone UTC’s patron and Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, OBE, will officially open Silverstone UTC on Friday 2 May 2014 and address the students who are studying to become tomorrow’s events managers and engineers.
The official opening is set to be a gathering of the great and the good from the Events Management and High-performance Engineering industries – reflecting the two specialisms of the new University Technical College which opened its doors in September last year.
The timing of the opening is set for just before the European leg of the Formula 1 calendar. Many of the students have aspirations to work in the industry, and they are all getting experience that will help them achieve that goal:
“The Aston Martin project has been truly amazing. We would never get to do this in our previous schools. If we were learning this anywhere else it would be extremely hard and boring. I’ve gained confidence to ask questions, I’ve been more creative and my grades have improved.” – Alfie, Year 10.
Principal, Neil Patterson, is looking forward to the event. “It means a great deal to have Adrian doing the official duties. His achievements represent the aspirations of many of our students and other young people in the region who have applied to study here.”
Adrian Newey, patron of Silverstone UTC, said “I’m honoured to be invited to officially open Silverstone UTC. Formula 1 teams have the luxury of being able to pick the very best employees and education is key to this. The students at Silverstone have fabulous facilities available to them and this gives them a great opportunity.”
Silverstone UTC is recruiting students in years 9 and 11 now for joining years 10 and 12 in September. Open Mornings and Evenings are running and those interested should visit the UTC’s website – www.utc-silverstone.co.uk to find out more.
Interview, filming and photograph opportunities will be available on Friday 2 May from 9:30am at Silverstone UTC with:
