The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Silverstone on 27 - 29 September for the penultimate round of 2013 as the season reaches its climax. With five drivers still in contention for the title, the on track action will be tougher than ever as Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan, currently at the top of the championship standings, battles for his first BTCC crown against seasoned champions Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal (both Honda Yuasa Racing), Jason Plato (MG KX Momentum Racing) and Colin Turkington (eBay Motors).
Silverstone’s high-speed 1.640-mile National Circuit will not only see three action-packed British Touring Car Championship races on the Sunday of the event, motor sport fans will enjoy a host of other on track action throughout the weekend, including support races from the Porsche GT3 Cup, Protyre Formula Renault Championship, Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup and Ginetta Junior Championship.
To top it off, there will be plenty of opportunities for fans to mix with their favourite drivers and teams, with free and open access to the BTCC paddock. Grandstand access is available at no extra cost for all ticket holders and parking at the venue is free, making this a great value weekend. Younger motor sport fans can also enjoy all of the action with Silverstone’s kids go free policy*.
The weekend’s entertainment isn’t just happening on track, either. Monster Energy’s Gymkhana GRID, created by American rallying legend Ken Block, will be taking place in one of Silverstone’s main car park areas at the entrance to the venue on Saturday and Sunday. Pitching the UK’s best budding drift drivers against each other in head to head battles, there is plenty at stake as the winners from the Silverstone competition will be whisked off for the ultimate challenge against the Gymkhana GRID creator himself Ken Block (AWD class) and drift master Vaughn Gittin Jr. (RWD class). The Monster rig will also feature drift demos from the Monster Energy Team drivers and appearances from the Monster girls.
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: “This year’s penultimate British Touring Car Championship round at Silverstone promises to be another fantastic event on the calendar, with closely-fought title battles on track and no less than sixteen races taking place over the weekend. We are also very excited to welcome Monster Energy’s Gymkhana GRID, inspired and created by Ken Block, to Silverstone, which promises to provide dramatic, exciting autocross entertainment for all the family. Combine all this with an open paddock and our kids go free offer it will be an action-packed weekend not to be missed.”
