As the penultimate round of the BTCC took place at Silverstone this weekend, Plato celebrated his victory as he clinched first place in two out of the three races, calling his success "one of the best days in my BTCC career".

Despite his misfortune in the second race which left him facing the daunting prospect of a 20th place start on the grid in the final– a tremendous effort saw Plato storm to victory leaving him, along with Shedden, Neal and Jordan, in contention of winning the 2012 championship as they go into the final round of the season at Brands Hatch later this month.

With no action this past weekend in MotoGP, the main news focused on the Japanese Grand Prix. Vettel took gold at Suzuka leaving him to finish within four points of the championship lead after Alonso was forced to retire following a clash with Kimi Raikkonen.

As the F1 heads to Korea this weekend, Vettel’s win has left the title race blown wide open, placing pressure firmly on Alonso and Ferrari as they fight to keep their lead.

Plato and Vettle were not the only ones to be celebrating this weekend. After a tense few days in France, Max Biaggi won his sixth world title as he emerged as WSBK champion with only half a point to spare over contender Tom Sykes.

After a fairly conservative approach to his racing throughout the season, Biaggi held his nerve throughout the final race and managed to secure the fifth place he needed to win the title by a mere 0.5 points.
