THE INSIDE WORD FROM SILVERSTONE

Five campsites make gold at Silverstone

The new scheme devised to highlight campsites that comply with set health and safety standards.

Five campsites that provide accommodation for events at Silverstone were the first to each receive the prestigious new gold campsite rating award at a ceremony held in the Wing, at Silverstone Circuit last Tuesday (5 November).

South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) successfully applied for funding on behalf of the Silverstone Interagency Campsite Subgroup (SICS) from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) last June to set up the scheme.

The new scheme was devised to highlight campsites that comply with set health and safety standards and to help visitors to the British Grand Prix, and other major events at Silverstone, to choose campsites that meet set standards. The winners of the gold campsite rating awards are:

-Hamilton Fields – Anette and David Wilson

-Litchlake Farm – Susie and Steve Tustian

-Silverstone Recreational Association – Peter Dyer

-Whittlebury Park – Penny Clarke and Charles Sargeant

-Woodlands Campsite – Duncan Wheeler and Oliver Whiteley.

Councillor Dermot Bambridge, SNC portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “Today is the culmination of many months of careful planning to set up these awards. They will help the thousands of visitors who camp at Silverstone for major events to make an informed choice about which campsite to book. The ratings now mean that visitors can see in advance what facilities are provided and that those campsites meet health and safety requirements as well.

“We are very proud to have one of the world’s greatest sporting venues in our district and it is only fitting that quality campsites are available. The fact that all five were awarded gold speaks volumes for their commitment.

“All of the campsites work very hard to provide a safe experience for visitors and the scheme rewards those that have achieved a high rating. We hope that others will apply for the scheme in future.”

Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, presented the awards and said: “We have spent a lot of time and effort evaluating and improving the customer journey for all Silverstone events and activities as it is vital that our visitors leave having had a fantastic experience.

“The campsite ratings scheme, and the hard work that these five campsite operators have put in, helps us to maintain the high standards of service that you would expect from a major international sporting event and to ensure we deliver upon our objective of making every customers’ experience a special one.”
