Silverstone has announced that its recently launched Wall of Fame will now incorporate the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame inductees. Now approaching its fifth year, the Hall of Fame has inaugurated over 20 international motor sport legends, from its founding members, including Sir Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Sir Stirling Moss and Jim Clark, through to present-day heroes such as Sir Frank Williams, Damon Hill, Adrian Newey and Tom Kristensen.
To celebrate the launch of the Silverstone Wall of Fame, in association with the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame, Sir Jackie Stewart, three-time World Champion, two-time Grand Prix winner at Silverstone and one of Britain’s greatest racing drivers of all time, was presented with a commemorative brick bearing his name, which will be the first to be included in the Wall.
The Silverstone Wall of Fame will be a dedicated area, appropriately located near the historic Bridge section of the former Grand Prix circuit, where many of the Hall of Fame inductees have raced, and will become a major attraction for visitors to Silverstone. Its creation will form a lasting celebration to the legendary drivers and riders that have created history and unforgettable moments around one of the most iconic motor racing circuits in world.
Enabling fans to cement their place alongside the most revered names in Silverstone and motor sport history, the Silverstone Wall of Fame in association with the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame will feature fans’ names and dedications on personalised, engraved stones. Those people supporting the scheme in the initial phase will have their stones located closest to the already inducted motor sport legends.
Visiting the site of the new attraction, Sir Jackie Stewart commented: “Silverstone has always been a special place to me with the circuit being my home Grand Prix and having won here in front of the fans in 1969 and 1971. I was also pleased to become a founding member of the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame back in 2010. It is now fitting that Silverstone and Motor Sport Magazine are collaborating to form a lasting tribute to motor sport of all disciplines, which both I and fans from across the world can be a part of."
Damien Smith, Motor Sport Magazine Editor said: "Motor Sport is delighted to be forming this special relationship with Silverstone, particularly as we gear up to celebrate the magazine’s 90th anniversary in 2014. There is so much shared history between the circuit and our publication. In the past five years, our Hall of Fame has become established as a prestigious and exclusive club for motor racing’s greatest figures, and the concept fits perfectly with Silverstone’s impressive new Wall of Fame. We are honoured to play a part in this initiative for race fans around the world.”
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: “The partnership between the Silverstone Wall of Fame and the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame is one we are very proud to announce. Silverstone Circuit is the most fitting location to honour such revered names and the perfect tribute to motor sport icons, past and present. It is a place where the Hall of Fame inductees will sit alongside commemorations and tributes to other famous drivers and riders, passionate motor sport fans, marshals, engineers and unforgettable moments in British motor racing history.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for fans to take their place alongside legends of the track and become part of Silverstone and motor sport history forever.”
There are three size options available to purchase, ensuring that all members of the Silverstone and motor sport family can unite and have their own individual part of the sport’s history. Each stone is personalised for fans to choose their own message, and will be carefully sited within a grid to create an impressive show of support.
In addition, Motor Sport Magazine subscribers will receive special discounts and offers for the Silverstone Wall of Fame. Through the partnership, Silverstone is also to be granted access to the historic Motor Sport Magazine archives, charting motor sport history to the present day.
Stones for the Silverstone Wall of Fame, in association with the Motor Sport Magazine Hall of Fame, are now on sale and available from £59. For further information visit www.silverstonewalloffame.com
