Thompson gets Speedworks test
James Thompson to test with Speedworks Motorsport to aid development of its NGTC-spec Toyota
Two-time Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title winner James Thompson is to test with the Speedworks Motorsport team to aid development of its NGTC-specification Toyota Avensis.
Thompson, who returned to the BTCC for the 2011 season finale in an Airwaves Racing Ford Focus, will get behind the wheel of the Avensis for a day of running at Donington Park on Thursday.
Having carried out the initial development work on the Toyota last year before the introduction of NGTC cars into the series, Thompson is seen as the ideal man to try and help move the Speedworks team forward after a challenging debut season in the series.
The team also plans to give regular driver Tony Hughes time behind the wheel during the test.
"James is a free agent and of course a fantastic driver to have in the car in terms of set-up work and overall development," team boss Christian Dick told the official series website BTCC.net. "He was also the test and development driver behind the original NGTC prototype which can only be of added value.
"We've got tons we want to get through so hopefully we'll get a break in the weather and, at the end of the day, Tony will be able to see how the car has come on."
