Sky Sports News to provide blanket F1 coverage

Sky Sports News has revealed its plans to provide additional F1 coverage in 2012.

Sky Sports live coverage of all 20 F1 rounds - assuming Bahrain goes ahead - this season will be complemented by extra input from the broadcaster's dedicated news service, it has been revealed.

Sky Sports News has announced that it intends to carry live reports from six days around every grand prix, 'with on-site reports beginning each Tuesday and running through the week to post-race reaction', as well as having contributors present at every scheduled test session.

"Two dedicated reporters - Rachel Brookes and Craig Slater - will be embedded to work amongst the teams both at races and during the upcoming 'test season'," Sky Sports' website proclaimed, before promising to "provide viewers with breaking news stories, detailed analysis and extensive coverage of each grand prix, including on-site build-up and reporting for all 20 races."

"This is the ultimate news service for F1," Sky Sports News HD executive editor Andy Cairns insisted, "Our reporters will be trackside and in the Sky Sports News HD studio ensuring viewers are always up to date with what's happening on and off the track. Viewers with iPads will be able to follow our F1 coverage wherever they happen to be via the new Sky Sports News app which features on-demand video, the latest news and interviews, data as well as Sky Sports News itself."

The channel has already carried features from Caterham, Williams and Marussia, and will be present at each 2012 launch before testing gets underway in Spain early next month.
