Lorenzo: Stoner still in title fight

Jorge Lorenzo insists the 2012 MotoGP title battle is still a three-way fight.

Jorge Lorenzo insists the 2012 MotoGP title battle is still a three-way fight.

Lorenzo's lead over Dani Pedrosa has been cut to 18 points after the Honda rider's second win of the season at Indianapolis on Sunday, but reigning champion Casey Stoner has slipped 39 points behind despite defying pain from his ankle injuries to claim fourth place.

Stoner faces another grueling physical challenge this weekend in the Czech Republic, but Yamaha star Lorenzo believes the soon-to-retire Australian could still turn things around.

"Again, like in 2010, it seems it's going to be a fight between me and Dani, but I will not discount Casey because he is strong and he can take several consecutive wins," said Lorenzo, who finished runner-up to Pedrosa at Indy.

"It's going to be hard," continued Lorenzo, who is hoping for performance upgrades from Yamaha. "We need to improve the bike a little. So we will see after the Brno race if we have some improvements for the test."

Lorenzo has won fives races this season, Stoner four and Pedrosa two. Lorenzo and Stoner have both suffered one DNF, while Pedrosa is the only rider to have scored in every round.

Seven rounds and 175 points remain up for grabs.
