Biaggi expects Laverty to 'motivate' him
Max Biaggi feels Eugene Laverty's arrival in the Aprilia team will only spur him on to maintain his status as the team's number one rider.
Max Biaggi believes Aprilia's decision to sign Eugene Laverty as his team-mate for the 2012 World Superbike Championship will be a 'good stimulus' for him to try and maintain his team leader status.
Laverty takes the place of Leon Camier in the factory team alongside Biaggi for 2012 having impressed on the way to fourth overall in his rookie WSBK season with Yamaha.
Though the Irishman has already impressed during his first test outing at Portimao, Biaggi remains unflustered about his arrival, adding that he and Laverty will have their own separate 'teams' despite competing under the same banner.
"My team is already tried and tested and Biaggi and his staff are all ready to go. Laverty will have a team all for himself who will as a result work for him alone.
"The only positive thing I can see is that it will be a good stimulus for me should I find myself in difficulty, in that case it'll motivate me even more to try and stay ahead."
2010 champion Biaggi pipped Laverty to third position in the 2011 WSBK standings, though the Italian was forced to sit out three events through injury.
