Biaggi out of Magny-Cours round
Max Biaggi turns his attentions to the 13th and final round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship after withdrawing from Magny-Cours.
Max Biaggi will miss a third World Superbike round in succession after confirming his foot injury has not yet healed in time for Magny-Cours.
The Italian officially conceded his WSBK crown by not racing at Imola, the outgoing champion forced out by the foot injury sustained at the Nurburgring three weeks earlier.
However, the proximity of the French event just a week after Imola means Biaggi won't be on track once again, the Italian now focusing his attentions on being fit enough for the 2011 season finale at Portimao.
"I would have liked to have been at Magny Cours, just as I wanted to race at Imola," the Aprilia Alitalia rider said. "The fact that I was at the track on Thursday to try any possible solution confirms that, even if, unfortunately, I had to give in to the medical evidence.
"The same thing happened for Magny Cours, a round which is just too close to hope for recovery. Unfortunately this injury requires a recovery time which does not reconcile with my desires. Now I'll do my best to go through the recovery process and to end this season at the Portimao round."
Biaggi's absence offers up an ideal opportunity for Eugene Laverty to surpass him in the renewed fight for third, the Irishman now just 25 points behind his rival with four races to go.
