Hopkins out until Imola

Crescent Fixi Suzuki has confirmed that John Hopkins will miss next weekend’s season-opening World Superbike round at Phillip Island.

Crescent Fixi Suzuki has confirmed that John Hopkins will miss next weekend's season-opening World Superbike round at Phillip Island.

However the American hopes to be back on track for round two, to be held at Imola, Italy, on April 1.

After flying back home from Australia to California on Tuesday, Hopkins has been undergoing daily treatment under the close-scrutiny of his doctor and is expected to have an operation to repair his latest hand fracture next week.

"John's having regular hyperbaric chamber-treatment to get the swelling down before having surgery early next week," said team manager Jack Valentine. "Therefore he will definitely miss the opening round here at Phillip Island. But, the good news is that he will be fit for Imola."

Hopkins, who broke his hand in a high-side crash on the opening day of the team's three-day practice session at the circuit on Monday, will thus be replaced by TAS Suzuki BSB star Josh Brookes for Crescent's first race as a full time WSBK entry.

Leon Camier will continue to ride the other Yoshimura-powered GSX-R1000. Brookes and Camier will next be on track during the official two day test at Phillip Island on Monday and Tuesday.
