Max Biaggi returns for final round
After missing three events through injury, outgoing World Superbike Champion Max Biaggi will return for the final round in Portugal.
Max Biaggi will make a return to the World Superbike Championshipi in time for the 2011 season finale at Portimao, even if he admits his foot injury hasn't completely healed.
The Italian, title-winner in 2010 for the Aprilia Alitalia team, has skipped the last three events after breaking his foot at the Nurburgring, Biaggi being struck by an errant piece of debris whilst he was on the bike during free practice.
Though Biaggi admits he is not 'at 100 per cent', he says he was determined to return before the end of the 2011 season regardless.
"I really hoped to get back onto the track quickly," Biaggi, a double winner at Portimao last season, said. "This is the first time in my career that I've missed races. Obviously my condition is not at 100%, but the desire to get onto the track in Portimao is very strong. The kind messages I received from my fans certainly helped to speed up my recovery!
"Portimao is a beautiful track, very demanding and spectacular. Last year I took the first double victory for myself and Aprilia, so we'll know straight away during the Friday practice sessions what results we can aim for. I've worked as much as possible to recover muscle tone and to prepare as best I can."
Biaggi's absence has seen him drop to fourth in the standings heading to Portugal, though he is just three points behind Yamaha's Eugene Laverty, who is rumoured to be signing as his team-mate for 2012.
