Successful test for BMW in Spain
Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri complete three days of testing for BMW at Jerez as they begin the countdown to the 2012 World Superbike Championship.
Leon Haslam says he is encouraged by the early developments of the 2012 BMW S1000RR after completing a successful three-day test at Jerez.
BMW is beginning its preparations for the 2012 World Superbike season earlier than its rivals in an attempt to establish an advantage over them, with riders Haslam and Marco Melandri focusing on the developments that have been introduced to try and make the bike easier to ride.
With this in mind, Haslam is happy with the changes made so far and is feeling confident ahead of the next scheduled test at Portimao, where Aprilia and Crescent Suzuki are expected to be in attendance too.
"This test went really well," said BMW Motorrad works rider Leon Haslam. "We made some good progress over these three days. We did a lot of development for next season and here we have been able to tick many boxes on our things-to-do-list.
"We also worked very productively regarding engine mapping and ride dynamic strategies. Overall, the team spirit is really high. We have a few new people in the garage and everyone is working together very well. Now we are looking forward to another three days in Portugal."
Melandri was also present on the bike, though his outgoing Yamaha contract means he cannot make comments about the BMW until January 1st.
