WSBK introduces post-event testing
Imola and Motorland Aragon will herald post-event World Superbike testing for the first time in an effort to drive down costs for some of the smaller teams.
Official test dates for the 2012 World Superbike and World Supersport Championships have been announced, which will include post-race testing for the first time.
With the WSBK testing ban coming into force on 1st December until January 15th, four official test sessions have been identified, beginning with the annual Phillip Island test on 20/21 February, which takes place a week before the 2012 season kicks off at the same circuit.
Additionally, the 2012 season will see testing take place after a race weekend, with Imola and Motorland Aragon earmarked as hosting one-day tests straight after its events on April 2nd and July 2nd, similar in format to that of MotoGP.
The move has been introduced in an effort to help teams with smaller budgets get a fair opportunity to utilise testing time without the requirement for increased travel overheads.
Finally, there will also be a pre-race test at the Moscow Raceway on the Wednesday before action gets underway officially on the weekend of 24-26 August.
BMW, Aprilia and Suzuki are currently embarking on a three-day test at Portimao ahead of the enforced ban, which affects on the Superbike teams.
