Former F1 champion brands Sebastian Vettel's decision to ignore team orders in Malaysia as 'stupid'Former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has hit out at Sebastian Vettel for what he felt was 'stupid behaviour' during the recent Malaysian Grand Prix.
The German ignored team orders and overtook team-mate Mark Webber for victory at Sepang to leave his Australian partner livid - despite Vettel issuing an apology afterwards.
Vettel's actions have split opinion over the past week, with a number of figures within the sport criticising the triple-champion but some - such as Bernie Ecclestone - speaking out in his defence.
Villeneuve however was firmly amongst those to disagree with Vettel's actions, branding his actions as 'stupid' and 'wrong'.
"It's easy to make excuses but in the end, Vettel's got the win and the points," he told Auto Bild. "Mark has nothing. It was a deliberate decision by Vettel. The team give you the contract and pay you the money, and so you do what they want you to do. It's very simple.
"Ignoring it is just plain wrong. The best example is my father and Didier Pironi. Just look at the problems that caused. Vettel's behaviour was just stupid. Such negative energy does not help the team. If he now needs help from Mark, he cannot be sure he will get it."
