The British F3 Championship, is one of the most competitive racing categories in existence, with one of the most recognisable names and reputations in world motor racing. Its former winners read like a Who's Who of motorsport nobility and legend: Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Nelson Piquet (Jr and Sr), Jenson Button, David Coulthard and Anthony Davidson have all been champions.

In 2008 however, Jaime Alguersuari became the youngest ever winner of the championship, beating off stiff opposition from Oliver Turvey and Brendon Hartley. With F3 regulations allowing different engine and chassis manufacturers, it's a thrilling championship where formbooks can be thrown out of the window at a moment's notice. To win the championship requires consistency, dedication and not a small amount of genuine skill.

Not to be missed, however, is the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, which joins the British F3 International Series this weekend at Silverstone. Headlining proceedings on Sunday will be the 2 hour GT race, in which the very best in GT3 and GT4 racers compete for glory.

In 2008 Michael Meadows and James Sutton took their maiden British GT Championship victory at Silverstone, in so doing wrapping up the Team Title for CR Scuderia whose alternate duo, Luke Hines and Jeremy Metcalfe, finished the season in the runners up spot in the drivers' table. Reigning drivers' champions Jon Barnes and James Gornall will be hoping to repeat their 2008 successes.

Away from the track there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
