Arguably the greatest Formula Ford 1600 competition in the world, the Walter Hayes Trophy takes place every November at Silverstone. Regularly attracting in excess of 150 cars and talented drivers, it is one of the most intense and entertaining festivals of speed and competition anywhere.

Having begun its life as an historic Formula Ford event, the event took on new meaning when the Silverstone Historic Festival was withdrawn and the Walter Hayes Trophy was moved to the end of the season as a "warm up" for the next year.

The format has developed over time, gradually taking on the knock-out format it holds today. It's because of this format, and the opportunity to see true next generation talents battling it out on Silverstone's National Circuit, that it has become one of the highlights of the season and a true fan-favourite. Pitching their talent against not only drivers of their own tender age, but against old-hands who return year on year to challenge the younger racers, it's a true challenge for every competitor.

In 2006 and 2007, Irish star Peter Dempsey established himself as the man to beat, but could not equal Joey Foster's hat-trick of wins, achieved in 2003, 04, and 05. Instead, 16-year old American Conor Daly made a huge impact to record the win.

With a number of enjoyable support events, including the BRDC Secretary's Challenge, a closed wheel race for Members of the British Racing Drivers' Club, this is one of the best ways to finish off your racing season.

Away from the track there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
