Driving may be a solo sport, but off the track motorsport enthusiasts are rarely alone. The Racing Club is for experiencing the thrills of the race together, swapping stories and making the trackside as much fun as it can be.
Silverstone Racing Club is THE CLUB for the Motorsport enthusiast and enjoys a rapidly growing membership of like-minded folk who come here not just to enjoy superb racing but also to socialise.
Our Club is situated between Woodcote and Luffield grandstands on the outer edge of Silverstone Circuit. We are very fortunate in having our own, exclusive grandstand with superb views across the track but also in that we have our own Clubhouse. On top of this wonderful facility SRC members are able to bring their vehicles into the circuit at most events (not the Grand Prix or some promoted events) and to either park at the clubhouse or in our own parking area a short distance from the Club. We keep members informed about events happening at Silverstone by e-mail.
Hayley Hammond is the club supervisor and Peter Coney is the Steward and is responsible for overseeing the Clubhouse and its facilities during the events.
We are open at every motor-racing event held on the Grand Prix or National Circuit so there is always a friendly welcome when you come to the track.
To those of you who are new to Silverstone or motorsport - please click on the 'How to join' link above to find out more about us and the many benefits of membership - we feel sure you will choose to join once you have seen all we have to offer. The Club was started in 1966, when it was known as ˜The Silverstone Club', by a group of motor racing enthusiasts. Some of these were regular competitors at Silverstone race meetings and all were great supporters of the Circuit. Initially, there was no Clubhouse, only a caravan belonging to one of the group which was brought to meetings and sited close to where the Clubhouse now stands on the outside of Woodcote Corner.
The late Jimmy Brown, ˜Mr Silverstone", soon realised that here was a number of people to whom Silverstone mattered, who would benefit from a permanent base, provide spectators at the circuit with an identity and give something back to Silverstone by way of their enthusiasm.
He therefore suggested that, if enough money could be raised to build a permanent Clubhouse, Silverstone and the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) would provide the site. One hundred 'Life Memberships' were offered for sale and the income provided the necessary funds to construct and equip the Clubhouse. All one hundred Life Memberships were sold and with the accumulated expertise of these Life members [builders, architects, businessmen etc] the Clubhouse was built - and officially opened at the British Grand Prix in 1967.
The founders of the Club were involved in motor racing or enthusiastic supporters and were anxious to help 'their ' circuit in any possible way. Surplus monies earned by the new Club were used on behalf of the circuit - in the early stages for the members of the new Club, but later for the good of the public visiting Silverstone. The ethos of the “Club” remains true today.
Silverstone Racing Club is now part of Silverstone Circuits Ltd (which is owned by the BRDC).
In addition to Life memberships, annual memberships to the Club were sold and soon a thriving membership was established. Currently, nearly half the original Life members maintain regular contact with the Club along with a number of the original annual members who have continued an unbroken membership for nearly 50 years. Although in recent years SRC has been almost fully subscribed, there have always been opportunities for new members to join.
It is the enthusiasm for Motorsport and being at Silverstone that have helped keep the Club alive for so many years. SRC Members enjoy the friendships made and the events held at Silverstone [not only the major events, but especially the smaller 'club' meetings]; many are very regular attendees.
The Clubhouse and the private, grandstand offers Members an identity within Silverstone and a place of refuge at race meetings. Social events, in and out of the racing season, are arranged. Interviews with famous and young racers are arranged, as are occasional external visits. Many Members live in the local areas, while others live elsewhere in the UK - and some in Europe, or as far away as Japan. Obviously, not all can attend many meetings but membership of the Club means that when they can come to Silverstone, there are always people they know within the Clubhouse.
Silverstone Racing Club continues to provide active racers and enthusiasts with facilities to increase their enjoyment of, and involvement with, motor racing.
You can now book your tickets for the 2015 FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX.
Tickets are available for SRC members and their guests for £243 per adult and £121.50 per child.
