The Silverstone medical team

Our team work from our on-site medical centre, positioned in the middle of the circuit, right next to the national pits and paddock. This facility is one of the best medical facilities of all racing circuits in the world and is fitted with some of the most advanced equipment available.

Join us

We are always interested to hear from potential new members of the team, so if you think you have what it takes to work in motorsport medicine complete and return the relevant application from the list below and send it to medical.services@silverstone.co.uk.

Once applications are received they are assessed and successful candidates will be invited to a minimum of two observation shifts (these are voluntary). These days allow you to observe what the team do. This is an invaluable experience as motorsport medicine is not for everyone.

Our medical centre has the following:

  • A two bed minor treatment centre
  • A four bed public ward
  • A four bed drivers ward
  • An imaging suite, equipped with the latest digital x-ray and ultrasound equipment courtesy of Philips Healthcare
  • A burns unit
  • A four bed resuscitation room
  • A single bed major treatment area
  • Three fast intervention cars
  • Two ambulances

  • First Aid at Work - Annual refresher

    Aim of Qualification

    The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to refresh the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations.

    Intended Audience

    The qualification is designed for qualified first aiders, who have a specific responsibility at work or in voluntary and community activities to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation, who need to refresh their skills as recommended by the HSE and to avoid “skill fade”.

    Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements but learners would be expected to have achieved the First aid at work qualification. Learners should possess communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment requirements of the qualification.

    What you will learn

    On completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Perform a Primary Survey
    • Refresh your knowledge and skills on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Manage an unconscious casualty
    • Manage a casualty having a seizure
    • Manage a casualty who is bleeding

    Assessment & Certification

    All our first aid courses are taught and assessed by expert health care professionals. Assessments are performed throughout the course and will consist of continuous observation of performance and practical assessments of core skills.

    Upon successful completion students will receive a certificate valid for three years. This includes an A4 certificate and a handy credit card sized certificate and aide memoire.

  • First Aid at Work - Requalification

    Aim of Qualification

    This qualification is only suitable for those candidates that have already completed a full three day First Aid at Work course in the previous three years.

    Intended Audience

    The qualification is designed for people who already hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate.

    Entry Requirements

    You must hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate or your previous certificate must not have expired in the three months preceding the start of your requalification. Candidates will also need good communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment requirements of the qualification.

    What you will learn

    On completion of this course you will be able to:

    • Understand the role of the first aider
    • Assess an incident
    • Manage an unconscious casualty
    • Perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Treat a casualty who is choking
    • Manage a casualty who is bleeding
    • Care for a casualty who is in shock
    • Deal with minor injuries
    • Recognise and manage a casualty with broken bones, muscle and joint injuries
    • Recognise and care for a casualty with head and spinal injuries
    • Manage a chest injury
    • Administer initial treatment to a casualty with burns and scalds
    • Manage a casualty with eye injuries
    • Recognise and initiate treatment to a casualty who has been poisoned
    • Recognise and initiate treatment to a casualty with a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
    • Recognise and deal with major illnesses, such as asthma, heart attack, stroke and diabetic emergencies

    All our first aid courses are taught and assessed by expert health care professionals. Assessments are performed throughout the course and will consist of; continuous observation of performance, practical assessments of core skills and a multiple choice question paper.
