GENERAL TESTING TERMS & CONDITIONS

 

Licenses and Regulations

All participants must sign on at Race Administration between 07:130 and 11:00 (subject to timetable changes – please view the Testing website prior to setting out on your journey for the latest information). Participants arriving late for signing on, please contact the Safety Team in Race Control.

All participants in testing must be at least 16 years of age. (Where a championship allows under 16’s to compete, call Silverstone Circuits Limited (SCL) for more details.)

All participants must produce a current Motorsport UK/FIA Competition Race Licence when testing at signing on. A parent or legal guardian must counter-sign the registration form of participants under the age of 18 years. If the driver is under 18 years of age and accompanied by the Team Manager, they must provide a letter from the Parent or Guardian.

If your licence is held by a governing body, please call the relevant governing body and ask them to email a confirmation to the circuit confirming that a valid licence is held – email [email protected]. Please bring photo I.D. to sign on. SCL has the right to refuse drivers who do not produce their licence when asked.

A driver signing on with a National ‘B’ Competition Licence who is required by Motorsport UK to display a novice cross when Racing, must also display a novice cross on the rear of their car when Testing. Each participant will be issued with a wrist band which must be worn during testing. Please stop at the end of the pit lane and show the wrist band to the marshal.

All participants must wear helmets and safety clothing, which comply with governing body technical/safety regulations, and all vehicles must comply with governing body technical/safety regulations. Road cars are not permitted on the circuit.

Passengers cannot be carried in vehicles on circuit during testing, the only exception is for Licensed Grade A or above Ards Instructors being in car (front seat), where the Instructor licence must be shown at sign on. Participants will be held responsible for the good conduct of his/her team personnel whilst at the venue.

 

Noise Limits – For all Vehicles (Cars)

Noise limits will be applied in accordance with our circuit regulations as follows:

  • National Circuit – 102dB on a drive-by test.

Please see Section (J) Common Regulations for Competitors : Vehicles – Appendix 1 Chart 5.18: Maximum Noise Limits Drive by limits will be 3dB less than those levels stipulated in the ‘Blue Book’.

It is the obligation of the all competitors/team managers to ensure that the silencer fitted to the vehicle being tested would meet with the requirements of a Motorsport UK scrutineer for that type of vehicle.

Offending vehicles will not be allowed to continue testing.

Should your vehicle fail the static or the drive by noise test and you are excluded from further participation, you will not receive a refund.

If you believe that your vehicle may exceed the above limits then please request a noise test prior to going out on circuit.

For the avoidance of doubt static measurements are taken at 0.5m at a 45 degree angle with the engine running at ¾ maximum static revs.

There are a number of noise meters located around the circuit which will measure your drive-by noise limit.

No racing engines may be run before 08:30hrs or after 17:30hrs.

SCL reserves the right for any Director or the Head of Health and Safety to suspend a participant from testing if in their opinion it is unsafe for testing by the participant to continue, whether for the participant’s safety or for the safety of others using the circuit, or if the participant commits a breach of the above conditions.

 

Filming

No photographic recording or similar equipment of any description shall be allowed onto the Venue for commercial purposes without SCL’s written consent.  For the avoidance of doubt, the participant may use on board cameras for personal purposes only.  Personal purposes excludes broadcast via social media sites including, but not limited to, You Tube and Facebook.

Any intended filming for commercial purposes requires the permission of SCL’s Head of Track and Automotive and payment of an appropriate fee.

Where on board filming equipment is used, the participant is solely responsible for inspecting the equipment to ensure it is safe and securely installed in accordance with the governing body regulations.  Any recordings must be made available to Motorsport UK officials and SCL if requested.

Under no circumstances must Helmet Cams be used.  Drones are also expressly forbidden.

 

Venue, Paddock Access and Departure Times

Access to the Venue and Paddock will be allowed from 07:30hrs on the testing date. If you arrive prior to this time, please park where indicated on the main entrance signage. Garages and Paddock clear by 19:00.

 

Paddock Information

Please be aware of other teams, participants, contractors, pedestrians and SCL staff in the paddock, garages and pit lane. You are responsible for your own safety and that of other users of these areas who may be effected by your operation.

It is your responsibility to risk assess your operation and take the appropriate action to remove or minimise any hazards.

SCL permits one truck wash only upon arrival at the Venue.

If you are reversing HGVs or other vehicles with restricted viewing then please have a banksman to help you reverse, and ensure that they are wearing hi-vis clothing.

Please do not leave any cables or hoses across walkways. Use the cable ducts provided, or cable matting.

Please make every effort to ensure that all waste oil is placed in the bunded containers provided and not the refuse bins and that all used tyres are removed from the site for safe and legal disposal.

Please make yourself familiar with the garage, paddock and pit rules.

If you have any issues of concern or see any hazards please report them to race control.

Due to the hazardous environment i.e. ‘live paddock’ children under the age of 16 are not allowed on site unless accompanied by an adult. This adult must supervise the child at ALL times. There is no exception.

 

Garage Allocation (if requested)

Upon arrival in the paddock, please ensure only the allocated garage is occupied. If you choose not to hire a garage, please ensure all team vehicles park on the opposite side of the paddock, keeping garage bays clear for those who have booked.

No vehicle can be left overnight within the garage without prior written agreement of SCL and with the appropriate risk assessment in place. For the avoidance of doubt, any cars left overnight shall be at the owner’s sole risk.

 

Pit Lane

  • Re-fuelling and the storage of petrol (or other fuels) is not permitted in the pit lane
  • No naked flames (smoking, welding etc) in the pit lane or garages
  • The pit lane is strictly one way. Vehicle access to the pit lane is via the gate between the garage blocks
  • Service vehicles are not allowed in the pit lane.
  • Reckless or dangerous driving will result in exclusion from further testing
  • Unless participating, no persons under the age of 16 are allowed in the pit lane or on the pit wall

 

On Track

If the circuit is closed to recover a stranded vehicle, red lights and red flags will be shown around the circuit. Participants must complete the lap slowly and return to the pits, but be prepared to stop during their slowing down lap. Ignoring the red lights or overtaking under red lights will result in instant exclusion from further testing and no refund of monies paid will be payable.Yellow lights must not be ignored, possible incident ahead, slow down and be prepared to stop, no overtaking.

When shown a Black Flag, drivers must stop at their pit garage within one lap and report to Race Control.

If any driver fails to obey any of the signals or instructions SCL shall be entitled to suspend or ban from testing any such driver for such period as SCL shall determine.

The chequered flag will be displayed at the start/finish line to signal the end of a session. Participants must return to the pits.

Flag signals will be shown at some but not all flag points around the circuit throughout the day.

In the event of mechanical failure, the participant must attempt to leave their vehicle in a safe place. The participant should then wait behind the barrier for recovery. Team personnel must obtain permission from Race Control before accessing the circuit.

Following an accident or collision with a permanent barrier, the participant’s wristband will be removed until the participant has received the approval of the medical crew to continue testing.

The participant shall reimburse SCL the cost to SCL for the repair of damage to the property of SCL including the circuit or any part of the property (which for avoidance of doubt includes the catch fencing, safety barriers and safety vehicles) caused by the participant, servants or agents or any person in his/her party. All monies due to SCL under this clause shall be paid by the participant within 14 days of the demand from SCL.

In the event of an incident on track, involving 2 or more vehicles, where driving standards are believe to be the cause, those drivers will have their wristbands confiscated until the Safety Team, and if required the chief instructor have reviewed the incident using marshals accounts and CCTV footage.

If it is deemed that the incident was caused by poor driving standards, SCL, reserve the right to stop that driver from testing further. No monies will be refunded in this case. Those parties not at fault will be issued with a new wristband and allowed to continue.

All participating vehicles are required to comply with Race Regulations and noise levels relevant to the Circuit.  Road going cars are not permitted.  Failure to comply will mean testing will be suspended until the vehicle(s) complies.

In consideration of being granted permission to use Silverstone Circuit upon payment of the fee I AGREE DECLARE AND UNDERTAKE: that in the event of accident, loss or damage occurring, I will not pursue any claim for damages against any other participant (save in respect of injury or death).

 

Payment Terms, Cancellations and Refunds

Payment is taken by credit card at the time of booking. In the event of a cancellation or non-attendance, no refund will be applicable.

In the event of a cancellation less than 14 days before the test, NO refund or transfer will be issued.

Should your vehicle breakdown on the day before or during the event day, unfortunately, no refund or transfer will be issued.

SCL reserves the right to levy an administration fee for any changes to a booking.

 

Force majeure and the weather

All Testing is offered subject to availability of dates, facilities and, of course, the weather or other events beyond our control and accordingly SCL cannot guarantee that a particular date or session will not be cancelled due to extreme adverse weather conditions or other events such as any governmental restrictions, riot, commotion, acts of God, industrial action, breakdown of plant or any failure of gas, water services, electricity etc

 

General

SCL reserves the right to: session any day or move any machine from one session to another or cancel any test day, (we will endeavour to give as much notice as is possible, but this cannot be guaranteed).

Fuel: The Fuel Station is unmanned and opening times are 08:30 – 17:00 weekdays and on race days 08:00 – 17:00.  The Fuel Station supplies Gulf Super Unleaded (97 octane), Gulf Track Unleaded (99 octane), Gulf Super 102 (102 octane) and Gulf Diesel.  The Fuel Station has an external credit/debit card payment system.

Catering: Pit Stop Café opening hours are 08:00 – 16:00

08:00 – 11:00 Breakfast
12:00 – 14:30 Hot Lunch

Please note these times are subject to change.

Maintenance Staff: Suitable and sufficient Venue maintenance staff will be available to repair any damage caused to the Venue during testing.  Repairs will, where possible, take place during the first suitable break in the day’s testing.  Any damage that is not repairable will be made safe as deemed appropriate by the Safety Team, Head of Health and Safety or Circuit Manager.

The term “participant” within this document refers to the driver testing a Car.

Walter Hayes Trophy Terms and Conditions

The Walter Hayes Trophy meeting is being organised by the Historic Sports Car Club (“HSCC”) on behalf of Silverstone Circuits Ltd (“SCL”) of Silverstone Circuit, Towcester, Northamptonshire NN12 8TN, for whom they are acting as agents. The race entry fees quoted includes VAT at 20%. SCL is company registered in England and Wales (registered no. 00882843. SCL’s VAT registration number is GB 170160935.

The Meeting will be held under the General Regulations of Motorsport UK, (incorporating the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA), the Supplementary Regulations and any written instructions that the Organising Club may issue for the event.

SCL reserve the right to postpone, abandon or cancel the practice, qualifying and race sessions in the event of force majeure. SCL will not be liable for any loss of expense incurred by entrants. No refund will be given for any cancellations or non-attendance by entrant.

We ask that you use your best endeavours to ensure your vehicle has no oil or fluid leakages. SCL have invested significantly in the circuit as such, it is crucial that you assist with the protection of the track as much as possible.

 

AGE LIMIT

  • The age for children at the Venue is 16 years in line with Motorsport UK Rules. Please note that for ticketing purposes, a child is still classed as 15 years and under.
  • Children aged 16 and under are not permitted to be in any Event build or breakdown areas.
  • Children 16 years and under are not permitted in the paddock or other operational areas of the Venue unless accompanied and supervised by an adult. If competitors are under this age then please notify your Event Manager/Co-ordinator.
  • Unless participating in the Event or on a scheduled pit lane walk, no children 16 years and under are permitted in the pit lane, pit garages or on the pit wall or assembly area at any time.
  • No children 16 years and under are allowed on the grid outside of pre-agreed grid walks
  • SCL reserves the right in its absolute discretion to refuse admission to or remove at any time from the Venue any person or member of a team, marshals, officials and guests or any competitors or competitors teams proposing to take part or taking part in the Event.
  • SCL is not liable to any Team or Participant in the event that any damage is caused in the course of removal of any vehicle from the Track.
  • The relevant Team or Participant shall be liable for all costs in respect of any excessive clean up or costs incurred by SCL to repair damages to the Track and Nominated Areas which also includes but is not limited to: run off areas, kerbs, Armco, debris fencing or grass.

 

DATA PROTECTION

SCL manages your data in line with the GDPR and current data protection legislation.   By entering the race you agree that your entry details and biography may appear in the race programme.  You also agree that we may share your data with the HSCC in order to deliver the event.
