1948
Named after nearby copses, green fields and small pockets of dense woodland – Chapel Copse and Foxhole Copse.
1960
Graham Hill stalled his BRM at the start of the 1960 Grand Prix but went from last to first, only to spin off at Copse. He was just five laps from the finish before he had to hand victory to Jack Brabham.
The drivers approach Copse at around 300km/h in 7th gear, before almost immediately applying full throttle at the exit.
This used to be the circuit’s first turn for nearly 60 years.
