The 2024 British Grand Prix in numbers

The 2024 British Grand Prix was a resounding success, matching 2023’s record-breaking event attendance and setting its own record for single-day attendance, alongside Hamilton’s own history-making results.

Aside from the headline stats, there are plenty of other significant numbers that helped define a weekend that will be talked about for years to come.

Sell-out crowd

The 2023 British Grand Prix set new attendance records for F1 in the UK, and the 2024 edition matched the incredible figure of 480,000 weekend attendance. But it was race day that stole the headlines this year, smashing the single-day Silverstone attendance record with 164,000 people present for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

A historic qualifying result for Great Britain

For the first time since the South African Grand Prix in 1968, there were three Brits in the top three in qualifying. On that day, Jim Clark led Lotus-Ford team-mate Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart. In 2024, George Russell headed the British trio with Lewis Hamilton second and Lando Norris third.

It was also the first time ever that three Brits had qualified in the top three at Silverstone. A truly historic day for British motorsport and the circuit.

New heights for Sir Lewis Hamilton

If there was any doubt about Lewis Hamilton’s place in F1’s pantheon of the greats, his performance at the 2024 British Grand Prix did away with the questions raised by some fans, and even Hamilton himself of late.

After a thrilling battle in mixed conditions with old rival Max Verstappen, compatriots George Russell and Lando Norris as well as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Hamilton emerged victorious to claim a record-breaking ninth win at a single circuit, in front of a jubilant Silverstone crowd.

He joins George Russell who’ll be driving for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, Lando Norris who continues with McLaren F1 Team and Lewis Hamilton who joins Ferrari in a bid for a record-breaking eighth world title.

No shortage of on-track action

Fans were treated to a whopping 19 sessions of on-track action over the course of the weekend including historic demonstrations, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, FIA Formula 3, FIA Formula 2 and Formula 1, so there was certainly no shortage of variety.

From DJs to tribute bands, and four incredible headliners in the shape of Rudimental, Stormzy, Pete Tong and Kings of Leon, the musical offering at Silverstone in 2024 was its best yet.
