The five-way MotoGP title fight gaining new momentum at the 2026 halfway point

What began as a dominant streak for Marco Bezzecchi has evolved into a genuine five-way scrap with team-mate Jorge Martin, a resurgent Marc Marquez, breakout satellite star Ai Ogura and an ever-consistent Fabio Di Giannantonio all mounting genuine championship challenges.
With the Czech Republic, Dutch and German Grands Prix now complete, the paddock turns its attention to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. Here's how each of the five contenders reached the midpoint of the season.

1. Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing): leads by 14 points
2024 World Champion Jorge Martin swept both the Sprint and Grand Prix at Le Mans - his maiden Aprilia victory that ended a 20-month win drought and kick-started his title bid - and added a further Sprint win earlier in the year at the Circuit of the Americas.
Beyond that French Grand Prix weekend, Martin has been a fixture on the podium, finishing on the Grand Prix rostrum in Brazil, the United States, Mugello and the Dutch TT, plus two further Sprint podiums.
With just one Grand Prix retirement all season, compared to four non-scoring Grands Prix apiece for team-mate Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez on the factory Ducati, Martin is deploying metronomic consistency to good effect in 2026.
2. Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia): 14 points off top spot
Even on the satellite Trackhouse bike, Ai Ogura sits second in the world championship, just 14 points behind Martin.
Like the championship leader, Ogura's season tally features just a solitary Grand Prix victory at the Dutch TT, plus podiums in the Czech Republic and at the Sachsenring (both second) and France (third) – one fewer Grand Prix podium than Martin – and the same number of Sprint rostrums.
It's the most recent three rounds in particular where Ogura has excelled, taking a pair of second places and a win in the Grands Prix, plus two further Sprint runner-up finishes.
With just a single retirement all season, at the United States Grand Prix, his underlying consistency matches that of Martin on non-factory machinery.
3. Marc Marquez (Ducati): 18 points back and closing fast
Marc Marquez endured a torrid start to his Grand Prix campaign, retiring from the opening round in Thailand and posting four non-scoring finishes from his first six Grands Prix, with only a fourth and a fifth to show for his efforts.
His Sprint form told a different story, though: Marquez was runner-up in the season-opening Sprint, then won outright in Brazil and at Jerez.
Since then, Marquez has rediscovered the form that carried him to a seventh world title last year. In the last four races, he's swept both the Sprint and Grand Prix at Balaton Park and again at the Sachsenring, adding a further Grand Prix win in the Czech Republic in between.
His recent form has vaulted him into title contention, sitting just 18 points off the top with half the season still to run.
4. Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing): 22 points back after early dominance
Marco Bezzecchi won the first three Grands Prix of the season back-to-back-to-back, in Thailand, Brazil and the United States, before adding second-place finishes at Jerez and Le Mans and a fourth win on home soil at Mugello.
Since Mugello, though, Bezzecchi hasn't scored a single Grand Prix point in four attempts, and his Sprint form has fared little better, with only a third and a fourth to show across the same run.
That barren spell includes being excluded from the Czech Republic Grand Prix following an incident with a marshal, and a heavy Sprint crash in Germany that shattered his collarbone and ruled him out of that weekend's Grand Prix entirely.
Having held a commanding championship lead for much of the opening half of the season, Bezzecchi now finds himself fourth in the standings, 22 points behind his Aprilia team-mate Martin.
5. Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati): 24 points back and firmly in the fight
Rounding out the five title contenders is Fabio Di Giannantonio, just two points further back than Bezzecchi in fifth place.
The Ducati rider opened his season with third-place finishes in Brazil and Spain, before claiming his first Grand Prix win since 2023 at Catalunya, a victory that came after he narrowly escaped a first-lap incident at the original start.
Five further Sprint podiums have underlined his consistency, and Di Giannantonio has finished outside the top six in a Grand Prix only once all season, at the Hungarian round.
Next stop: Silverstone
The fight for the 2026 MotoGP world title heads to Silverstone next, with the British Grand Prix as its next port of call.
Just 24 points cover the top five in the standings, and with Marc Marquez charging back into form at exactly the right time, the title fight is wide open at the halfway point.
