Could we see a 12th different MotoGP British Grand Prix winner in a row?
31 July 2026Marco Bezzecchi inherited the lead after Fabio Quartararo's late retirement to win a chaotic 2025 MotoGP British Grand Prix, becoming the 11th different Silverstone winner in as many years.
Now, with the 2026 season in full swing, there's a very real possibility that another rider could make it 12 from 12 at Silverstone. Five riders arrive at Northamptonshire in form and still chasing a first British Grand Prix win. But two previous winners – both riding a wave of their own momentum – could just as easily spoil the party.
Chasing a first Silverstone win
Jorge Martín
The championship leader has endured a stop-start 2026, with just a single victory at the French Grand Prix to his name, despite topping the standings on 208 points. Building an advantage largely through consistency rather than wins is nothing new for Martín, but a first Silverstone victory remains conspicuously absent from his CV.
A serious injury kept him out of action for much of 2025, meaning his last visit to Silverstone came back in 2024, and it's still his best result on British soil. He finished runner-up in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix that weekend. With a full season back under his belt and the points lead in hand, 2026 might finally be the year everything clicks for Martín at Silverstone.

Ai Ogura
After a quietly impressive rookie campaign in the premier class last season, Ai Ogura has turned it up a notch in 2026, climbing to second in the standings off the back of two second-place finishes and the first Grand Prix victory for a Japanese rider since 2004 in his last three Grand Prix outings.
Silverstone has been kind to him before, too. Racing in Moto2 back in 2022, Ogura finished fourth at the British Grand Prix on his way to a runner-up finish in that year's championship — proof the pace to challenge at the front in Northamptonshire is already there.

Fabio Di Giannantonio
Fabio Di Giannantonio has been a fixture just outside the podium places in recent rounds, finishing agonisingly close at both Brno and the Dutch TT without quite completing the job. He took his only win of the year at Catalunya and took two further podiums in the first four rounds at Brazil and Jerez. Currently fifth in the standings on 184 points, the Italian has the pace to be a factor at Silverstone even if the results haven't always followed.
His own history at the circuit tells a similar story of solid, if unspectacular, form: fifth in Moto2 back in 2021, and fifth again in the premier class in 2024.

Raúl Fernández
Raúl Fernández has found real momentum alongside his Trackhouse teammate Ogura in recent rounds, taking a Sprint win in the Netherlands before backing it up with back-to-back podiums at the Dutch TT and the German Grand Prix. Sixth in the standings on 159 points, he's a rider clearly building towards something.
Silverstone, though, hasn't always been kind to him. His best finish in the premier class came in 2023, and even then he could only manage tenth. Given his current trajectory, 2026 looks like his best chance yet to turn that record around.

Pedro Acosta
Pedro Acosta has been knocking on the door all season, with two runner-up finishes already on the board in 2026 and another near-miss at the German Grand Prix, where he finished just off the podium. The KTM rider has the raw speed to trouble anyone on his day, but is also overdue a little luck this season.
Acosta's best Silverstone result came during his Moto2 title-winning campaign in 2023, when he finished third.

The riders who could spoil the party
Marc Márquez
If anyone is going to deny the chasing pack their piece of history, it might be Marc Márquez. The Ducati rider is in red-hot form, with three wins from his last four Grand Prix; form that puts him firmly in the conversation, even if a Silverstone win would deny a 12th different winner in as many races.
Other than his 2014 victory, he has recent form at Silverstone: third in last year's Grand Prix, and runner-up in the Sprint. Sitting third in the current standings on 190 points, Márquez has both the momentum and the recent track record to make this the year he tops the podium in Northamptonshire once again.

Marco Bezzecchi
Marco Bezzecchi already knows what it takes to win at Silverstone — he did exactly that twelve months ago, inheriting the lead after Fabio Quartararo's late retirement for a dramatic 2025 victory. Repeat the trick in 2026, and he'd become the first rider to win back-to-back British Grands Prix since Jorge Lorenzo in 2012 and 2013.
The last four rounds without a score is a rough run by any measure, but it follows a spectacular home win at Mugello for Bezzecchi and Aprilia. A second Silverstone win wouldn't just deny the chasing pack their piece of history; it might be exactly what his title bid needs to get back on track.
