SRO Motorsports Group reveals 2022’s nine-race Intelligent Money British GT Championship calendar

> Oulton Park returns to traditional Easter Bank Holiday slot

> Longer, three-hour format for first of Donington’s two rounds

> Official entry process opens on December 1

> MSV’s new GB4 Championship joins support series roster

The Intelligent Money British GT Championship will retain a seven-event, nine-race calendar next season.

The series’ regular six circuits – Oulton Park, Silverstone, Donington Park, Snetterton, Spa-Francorchamps and Brands Hatch – all feature once again, albeit in a different order to the pandemic-affected schedules of 2020 and ’21.

Oulton Park’s two hour-long sprint races return to their traditional Easter Bank Holiday Monday slot for the first time since 2019, while the blue riband, three-hour Silverstone 500 moves forward to early May.

The same 180-minute duration will also feature at Donington Park three weeks later after the longer endurance format proved a popular addition in 2020, before Snetterton welcomes its regular sprint double header in late June.

Spa-Francorchamps then plays host to SRO Speedweek as usual just before the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa in July.

The seven-week summer break comes to an end on Brands Hatch’s GP circuit in mid-September before champions are crowned at the two-hour #DoningtonDecider just over one month later.

As always, the calendar has been predominantly configured to avoid clashes with SRO’s European GT3 and GT4 championships, thus maximising opportunities for teams and drivers. BTCC clashes have also been minimised where possible.

What’s more, all nine races will remain free to watch globally on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and the British GT Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Friday’s official test sessions, which have become a feature of most 2021 events, will return at the majority of rounds. A full testing schedule, as well as the pre-season Media Day date, will be confirmed in the new year.

Existing and new teams eager to join the grid in 2022 are encouraged to make their interest known to British GT’s management before the entry process officially opens on December 1.

Elsewhere, MSV’s new entry-level single-seater series, the GB4 Championship, joins British GT’s support series roster alongside the likes of GB3. Both of those calendars will be announced separately in due course.
