More action than ever: Silverstone among growing list in 2027 F1 Sprint Calendar
22 September 2026Hot off yet another record-breaking British Grand Prix, Silverstone already has its sights set on 2027. The newly confirmed 2027 calendar delivers a record 10 Sprint weekends, nearly double 2026’s total, and the Home of British Motorsport is once again on the list.
For Silverstone, that's a third Sprint weekend, following the inaugural event in 2021 and 2026’s sell-out return. The Formula 1 British Grand Prix returns 2-4 July 2027, with Sprint Qualifying and an extra day of wheel-to-wheel racing built right into the weekend.
Why is F1 adding more Sprints in 2027?
Since its introduction in 2021, the number of Sprint weekends has risen from three a year in 2021 and 2022, to six a year between 2023 and 2026, and now to ten for 2027.
That increase reflects fan research that shows 82% of Sprint-weekend attendees think the format adds value to their ticket, and three in four F1 fans believe Sprint events strengthen the season overall.
Which races have a Sprint in 2027?
Half of the ten Sprint weekends on this year's 24-round calendar are brand new to the format. The other half, Silverstone included, are repeat hosts.

That line-up means the season opens with three Sprints inside the first four rounds, and closes with back-to-back Sprint weekends in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, putting more points on the table as the title fight reaches its conclusion.

The format returned to Silverstone in July 2026, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli taking a hard-fought victory that came agonisingly close to a home celebration for Hamilton.

What is an F1 Sprint?
A shorter, standalone race held on the Saturday of a Grand Prix weekend. It's run over 100km – around 17 laps of Silverstone – roughly a third of a normal Grand Prix distance, taking about 30 minutes with no mandatory pit stops. Points go to the top eight finishers, from 8 for the win down to 1 for P8.
Does the Sprint affect Sunday's Grand Prix grid?
No. Sprint Qualifying on Friday sets the grid for Saturday's Sprint, and a separate Qualifying session on Saturday afternoon decides where everyone starts on Sunday.
