Every Lap Counts: Silverstone Takes a Data-Driven Approach to Carbon Management

Silverstone is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Neutral Gear, powered by Carnatter. With their knowledge and expertise, we are enhancing our understanding of our full environmental impact from all of our track activity – covering everything from standard road cars to Formula 1 cars.

The collaboration will translate vehicle type and miles data into associated carbon emissions, enabling Silverstone to measure track activity with greater precision. This robust approach provides valuable data which is crucial in supporting the venue's approach to carbon management, sustainability, and to identify credible and verifiable opportunities to offset unavoidable emissions.

As we near closer to 2030, which is Silverstone’s milestone target year to reduce emissions by 50% (against a baseline year of 2025), with their ultimate goal of Net Zero by 2040, advancements like this are critical to supporting these goals and taking informed action to address climate change.

Sophie Ellis, ESG Impact Manager at Silverstone said:

“As an iconic motorsport venue, we recognise the importance of understanding our full environmental impact. This collaboration marks the first time this has been achieved at this comprehensive level within motorsport venues, and represents an important step forward in improving the accuracy of how we measure track activity and the associated carbon emissions. Better data enables better decisions, and this initiative will support our wider sustainability ambitions.”

Baz Slatter, Founder of Carnatter added:

“We are delighted to be working with Silverstone on this innovative initiative. As fans and participants of motorsport for many years we deeply understand how ‘Every Lap Counts’. The need for accurate, reliable data is fundamental to effective carbon management, and our technology will provide valuable insight into track activity that can be used to better understand and address its environmental impact.”

The collaboration forms part of Silverstone's wider commitment to continually exploring new technologies and initiatives that can support a more sustainable future for motorsport and events.
