Brit watch half term report: Young hopefuls shine in F1 support series

As the 2025 season is well underway, Britain’s young talents are continuing to make waves on the global stage in the Formula 1 support categories.

Competing across Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy, the British contingent have recorded podiums, maiden victories and some intense battles.

Here’s how some of Britain’s rising talents have been getting on in their respective championships.

Formula 2

Luke Browning

Hitech’s Luke Browning has had a positive run in his first full Formula 2 campaign, firmly in the Championship mix as he sits fourth after 10 rounds.

With seven podiums to his name, consistency has defined his season so far. However, he is yet to achieve pole position or a victory to that list of achievements in the category.

His run in the first part of the season was nothing short of impressive, achieving top 10 finishes in all races prior to the Barcelona Feature Race where he finished 20th. Since then, it has become slightly trickier with two retirements, two 12th places and a couple of top five finishes to his name.

He was the driver to watch in the Silverstone Feature Race with a brilliant wet weather performance. Starting from 12th on the grid, the Hitech driver shone as he made his way through the field to finish third on home turf.

He’ll be aiming to regain his form in the final stretch of the Formula 2 season following the summer break.

Arvid Lindblad

Arvid has made a sensational start to his debut Formula 2 season, becoming the youngest driver in F2 history to win a race after he inherited victory in Jeddah’s Sprint Race from Richard Verschoor.

A further podium followed in the Imola Sprint Race, with his second victory of the season coming in Barcelona after a commanding performance in Qualifying saw him convert pole position into his first Feature Race win.

Sitting seventh in the standings, the Red Bull junior has struggled as of late, with a retirement at Spielberg, a disqualification from second place in the Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps and just two recorded points finishes since early June.

With time to reset ahead of the next round, there are still opportunities for the Brit to fight back.

Formula 3

Callum Voisin

Callum Voisin’s Formula 3 season has seen some highs and lows, with clear progress being shown in his second year with Rodin Motorsport.

He scored his first and only podium of the season so far with a second-place finish in Bahrain after qualifying second. He currently sits 14th in the championship, just five points off breaking into the top 10.

He followed that up with a fourth place in Monaco’s Feature Race and a top 10 finish in Barcelona, both of which helped to boost his points tally. But since heading into the final part of the season, he has struggled to further add to this.

Outside of Formula 3, Voisin impressed during Formula E’s July Rookie Test with CUPRA KIRO, showing his adaptability and potential as a driver.

The Brit will be looking to end his second season in Formula 3 on a more positive note as the season finale approaches in Monza.

F1 Academy

Alisha Palmowski

Rookie driver Alisha Palmowski has continued to make a strong impression in the first half of the 2025 F1 Academy season, showcasing both raw speed and resilience under pressure.

After her maiden win in China, she carried solid momentum into the next rounds. In Jeddah, she delivered consistent results with a podium and a top five finish.

A rain-disrupted weekend in Miami still saw her climb to another podium in the reverse-grid Race 1, but the second race was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

Montreal brought a mix of promise and frustration. Despite setting the pace in practice and qualifying second, contact in Race 1, which was the postponed Miami Race 2, led to a penalty and dropped her out of the points.

However, she recovered well in the remaining races, collecting sixth and seventh place finishes. They did not come without incident though; after starting on the front row in Race 3, she made contact with fellow Brit Ella Lloyd and lost track position but still recovered well.

She currently sits fifth in the championship standings.

Ella Lloyd

Ella Lloyd has continued to produce noteworthy race results which has moved her up to fourth in the standings and the highest placed rookie.

After her steady results in Shanghai, the following weekend in Jeddah saw her earn her maiden win during Race 1 after starting second in the reverse grid race.

Miami was a weekend to forget for the Welsh driver. After starting the weekend strong with fourth in practice and Qualifying, her luck took a turn, and it was the only weekend she has finished without a single point.

Her most successful weekend came in Montreal, where she secured second place finishes in each of the three races, even with a grid penalty in Race 1 that was carried over from Miami.

With three rounds left in the season and her consistency on show, Ella still has a shot to fight for the championship, only 42 points behind leader Doriane Pin.
