McLaren take double podium after pit stop drama
Lando Norris was in fight mode come Sunday afternoon, duelling with Max Verstappen off the line. The Dutchman skipped the chicane and had to hand the position back to Norris, but it didn’t take long before the Brit slipped back to second.
Oscar Piastri had his own battles at the start of the race, going head-to-head with Charles Leclerc. He dropped back to fourth but retook third shortly after.
Drama occurred during the pit stops, when Norris suffered a slow stop which dropped him behind Piastri as he rejoined. The team decided to swap the pair around, putting Norris back into second and Piastri third.
A steady race for Russell
The Mercedes driver started fifth and in the early stages of the race he was fighting with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
He continued to close up to Leclerc but was losing time on the straights and was unable to make further progress, finishing where he started in fifth.
Hamilton spurred on by the Tifosi
In his first outing at Monza with Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton worked his way through to field to finish sixth after starting 10th.
He secured fifth in Qualifying, but a grid penalty he received at the Dutch Grand Prix meant he started in the midfield.
The Brit made an excellent start and moved up to seventh in the early laps. After chasing down Gabriel Bortoleto for sixth, he remained there for the rest of the race, despite attempting to close the gap to old team-mate George Russell.
Penalty woes for Bearman
Ollie Bearman was once again in the mix for a top 10 finish, but a collision with Carlos Sainz on Lap 41 saw those hopes fade away. He was issued a 10-second time penalty for his role in the incident, but despite this, he was still able to maintain 12th position.
