Guenther Steiner swaps F1 for MotoGP with Tech3 acquisition

Former Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner is swapping four wheels for two after leading a consortium to acquire the Red Bull KTM Tech3 MotoGP team.

A new adventure for a fan favourite

Known for his no-nonsense approach and straight-talking personality, Steiner became a cult hero in Formula One. Now he’ll bring that same energy to the premier class of motorcycle racing, stepping in as CEO alongside Richard Coleman as Team Principal from 2026.

The timing couldn’t be more exciting. With Liberty Media completing its MotoGP takeover earlier this year and new regulations arriving for 2027, including a switch to Pirelli tyres, Steiner joins just as the sport enters a bold new era.

Honouring Tech3’s legacy

The Tech3 team is one of the MotoGP paddock’s longest-serving teams, and Steiner has promised to respect that history while building for the future.

Racing with 10-time MotoGP race winner Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini – who took a podium finish last time out in the Catalan GP – the team has proven itself to be one of the frontrunners behind the dominant Ducati teams.

Current boss and founder Hervé Poncharal will stay onboard in a consultancy role from 2026, ensuring his wealth of experience continues to shape the team.

From the F1 paddock to the two-wheeled stage

Since leaving Haas at the end of 2023, Steiner has stayed busy – from punditry roles for F1 broadcasters, becoming an ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix to even becoming a bestselling author.

His switch to MotoGP adds a fresh chapter to his motorsport journey, one that British fans can witness up close when MotoGP roars back to Silverstone in August next year.

While his next chapter will see him swap paddocks, you can expect the same determination and character that defined his Formula 1 career, now in the world of motorcycle racing.

Looking ahead

With Tech3’s future secure and MotoGP entering a period of huge growth, Steiner’s arrival is another sign of the sport’s global pull.

And for fans it’s one more storyline to follow when the world’s best riders, and now one of motorsport’s biggest personalities, hit the track at Silverstone.
