MotoGP 2026 season so far: Title battle heats up with 50 days to Silverstone
17 June 2026With just 50 days to go until the MotoGP British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the 2026 MotoGP season is hotting up.
New winners, resurgent manufacturers and a fiercely competitive title fight have combined to create a truly unpredictable campaign.
As the paddock prepares for a crucial run of races before arriving in Northamptonshire this summer, there is still everything to play for in the Riders’ Standings.
Aprilia sets the early pace
Marco Bezzecchi stormed out of the blocks with Grand Prix victories in Thailand, Brazil and the United States, quickly establishing himself as the rider to beat.
His consistency has been just as impressive as his outright speed, only failing to finish on the Grand Prix podium once in the first seven races.
Alongside him, 2024 World Champion Jorge Martin has begun to discover his rhythm aboard Aprilia machinery.
After showing promising pace in Brazil and at Circuit of the Americas, Martin pushed his team-mate all the way to the chequered flag on both occasions, giving fans an early glimpse of a potential intra-team title battle.
Home heroes and breakthrough moments
Round four at Jerez delivered one of the standout stories of the season as Alex Marquez claimed a memorable victory on home soil for the second consecutive year.
Behind him, Bezzecchi continued his remarkable run with second place, while Fabio Di Giannantonio secured a podium finish.
The following round at Le Mans saw Martin finally break through for his first victory on an Aprilia. It was his first MotoGP win in 20 months and a significant moment in the growing momentum of his title tilt.
The race also delivered a breakthrough result for Ai Ogura, who secured his maiden premier-class podium for Trackhouse Aprilia.
Ducati begins to fight back
The Catalan Grand Prix marked a turning point for Ducati, with Di Giannantonio taking his first MotoGP victory since 2023. Fermin Aldeguer finished second for BK8 Gresini Racing and Francesco Bagnaia claimed third to complete an all-Ducati podium.
Bagnaia's return to consistent podium form has become one of the key stories of recent rounds. After a challenging start to the year, the double world champion has begun to rebuild momentum at exactly the right time.
Mugello magic and Marquez returns
Bezzecchi delivered a dream home victory aboard an Italian motorcycle at Italy's most revered MotoGP venue, delighting the passionate Mugello crowd. Martin followed him home in second while Bagnaia secured a second consecutive podium finish.
At Balaton Park, Marc Marquez reminded the MotoGP world exactly why he remains one of the sport's greatest riders. Having been mired by injuries since securing his seventh title last year, the Spaniard returned to the top step of the podium following an enthralling battle with Pedro Acosta.

What to watch before the British Grand Prix
Before MotoGP arrives at Silverstone, the championship heads to the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Germany.
Those venues aren’t insignificant for Marquez. Last season, they formed part of his remarkable seven-race winning streak. If he can tap into a similar vein of form, it could reignite a championship challenge many thought wouldn’t materialise in 2026.
Or, alternatively, Aprilia could reassert the dominance that defined the opening part of the campaign, leaving Bezzecchi and Martin to battle it out for the title.
When MotoGP returns to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, the championship battle could look very different.
