Marco Bezzechi celebrates winning the 2025 MotoGP race at Silverstone

MotoGP British Grand Prix results: Aprilia on top after chaotic Silverstone race

The MotoGP fraternity was welcomed to Silverstone a little earlier than usual in 2025, but the racing was as unpredictable as ever.

There was a strong possibility of fans seeing an 11th different winner from the last 11 visits to Silverstone, but it was 2021 winner Fabio Quartararo who grabbed the early headlines, underlining Yamaha’s one-lap pace to take a third pole position in a row.

Lining up just behind him were title protagonists Álex Márquez, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez. On the face of it, the race was set to follow a similar formula to others that had come before in 2025, but the end result couldn’t have been more different.

Sprint Race: Álex dethrones Marc

Saturday's Sprint took place under brooding skies and Quartararo nailed the launch off the line to grab the holeshot, while Álex Márquez slotted into second and Marc Marquez stormed around the outside of Francesco Bagnaia to take third.

Marc wasn’t done there. At Brooklands, he muscled past his brother before completing a stunning Senna-esque first lap by snatching the lead from Quartararo into Stowe.

Álex followed him through at the start of Lap 2, but when Marc ran wide moments later, the younger of the Marquez brothers seized the opportunity to reclaim the top spot.

Behind them, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Bagnaia locked horns in a fierce scrap for third, with the VR46 Ducati rider eventually gaining the upper hand.

Marco Bezzecchi then joined the fray, passing both Bagnaia and Johann Zarco in a thrilling final-lap shuffle for fourth place.

Despite pressure from Marc, Álex held firm to become the first rider this season to beat his brother in a Sprint.

Grand Prix: Bezzecchi breaks through on wild race day

Sunday brought brighter weather and even more drama. Riding high from his Sprint win, Álex made a lightning start into Turn 1, only to be caught out by cold tyres and forced into the run-off area before he’d even reached the apex.

The treacherous early laps bit again when Marc, also struggling for grip on the Medium tyre, lost the front at Maggotts on Lap 2. He rejoined, but not before oil on the circuit brought out the red flags and prompted a full race restart.

On the second start, both Marquez brothers approached Turn 1 more cautiously, allowing Bagnaia and Quartararo to battle it out for the lead early on.

Quartararo led the opening lap, but Jack Miller was the standout in the early running as he sliced past his rivals to climb into second.

Tyre woes continued to shape the race the second time around as well. Bagnaia tumbled down the order, dropping to 13th by Lap 4 before crashing out at Luffield.

Marco Bezzecchi, Miller and Johann Zarco went into combat for second, with Bezzecchi eventually breaking free to chase down the race leader.

Marc, meanwhile, began a remarkable comeback from ninth on Lap 5, carving through the pack with clinical precision.

In just four laps, he dispatched Luca Marini, Joan Mir, Álex Márquez and Miller to move into fifth, before overtaking Franco Morbidelli on Lap 11 to grab fourth.

Then came heartbreak for Quartararo. Leading comfortably, he was forced to retire on Lap 12 due to a ride height device failure ending his hopes of a first win since 2022.

Bezzecchi inherited the lead and held firm to take an emotional victory, becoming the 11th different winner at Silverstone in the last 11 years.

Zarco followed up his home win last time out with second and behind the top two, the fight for the final podium spot was intense.

Morbidelli and Marc Marquez battled to the line, with Marc edging out both the Italian and Álex Marquez by less than a tenth in followed just behind in a thrilling conclusion to a memorable British Grand Prix.
