Verstappen takes dominant win with sixth career grand slam

From pole position, Verstappen made no mistakes at the start and quickly established control of the race. The Dutchman’s relentless pace left rivals without an answer as he ticked off the laps around Baku’s tight streets.

After pitting for mediums on Lap 41, he comfortably rejoined in the lead and powered to victory, securing pole, fastest lap and a lights-to-flag win for his sixth career grand slam – a result that equals Hamilton and edges him closer to Jim Clark’s record.

Russell brings home second for Mercedes

George Russell delivered a composed drive to take a well-earned second place. Holding fifth early on, he lost ground to Yuki Tsunoda after the Safety Car restart but fought back with a decisive move into Turn 3.

The Mercedes driver gained further ground as Antonelli and Lawson pitted, running third before his own stop for mediums on Lap 40. Emerging in second ahead of Carlos Sainz, Russell controlled the gap to secure the runner-up spot.

Norris fails to capitalise

It was a frustrating race for Lando Norris, who started seventh but slipped backwards in the early stages, losing out to Isack Hadjar and Charles Leclerc.

A slow 4.1-second pit stop on Lap 38 cost him track position, but Norris regained seventh by repassing Leclerc into Turn 1 on Lap 41.

Despite pressuring Tsunoda in the closing stages, he couldn’t find a way through and crossed the line seventh, missing a valuable chance to claw back points after Piastri’s DNF.

Hamilton extends stint but finishes eighth

Lewis Hamilton gained two places at the start and ran long on hard tyres before stopping on Lap 37. Switching to mediums, he rejoined ninth but was waved through by team-mate Leclerc to move into eighth.

The seven-time champion closed on Norris in the final laps but was unable to pass, settling for eighth at the flag.

Bearman battles to 12th in Baku

Ollie Bearman produced another assured performance in his rookie season. Starting 15th, the Haas driver survived the opening-lap Safety Car and initially dropped to 17th, stopping early, but steadily worked his way back into contention.

Bearman climbed to 12th by the chequered flag, just outside the points, but once again demonstrating he’s the real deal.

Piastri crashes out in costly DNF

Championship leader Oscar Piastri endured a nightmare weekend in Baku. A qualifying crash left him on the back foot, and things worsened when he jumped the start, dropping him to the rear of the field.

Any hopes of recovery were dashed when he locked up and hit the wall at Turn 5, forcing him into retirement and surrendering a chance to score vital points in the title fight.
