Las Vegas Grand Prix 2025 preview: Key F1 talking points
14 November 2025Formula 1 heads to the entertainment capital of the world for one of the most glamorous events on the calendar, the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Round 22 of the 2025 F1 season promises high-speed action under the lights as the battle for the Drivers' Championship intensifies, with Lando Norris emerging as the driver to beat last time out.
Here are the key storylines ahead of the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Norris edges closer after back-to-back brilliance
Lando Norris arrives in Las Vegas with momentum, having secured back-to-back Grand Prix victories in Mexico and Brazil.
His stellar form has seen him extend his lead to 24 points over team-mate Oscar Piastri, putting him tantalizingly close to clinching his maiden Drivers’ title.
While a 24-point lead with three rounds remaining is significant, the title fight is certainly not over. The Las Vegas Strip Circuit bites. Norris will need to have his wits about him if he’s to maintain his advantage into the final three rounds.
Piastri needs to rediscover his rhythm
While his team-mate has been on a winning streak, Oscar Piastri has endured a difficult run of events. A commanding lead after Zandvoort has disintegrated into a deficit.
The Australian hasn't finished on the podium since the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, a run of five races without a top-three finish.
Piastri has shown imperious pace throughout the 2025 season, but that speed has gone missing in recent races, stalling his title charge.
With the gap now at just under a Grand Prix win, he needs to pivot quickly to get back in contention.
A victory in Las Vegas is paramount if he is to have a serious shot at coming out on top in the standings.

Previous winners: a lifeline for the chasing pack?
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is still a relatively new addition to the calendar, but two of this year’s front-runners already have a taste for victory on the Strip.
Max Verstappen claimed victory in 2023, while George Russell won the 2024 edition of the race. If Verstappen, who is still mathematically in the hunt, can replicate his 2023 performance, he could leapfrog Piastri and apply pressure on Norris heading towards the final two rounds.

Similarly, Russell’s 2024 success, coupled with his performances in Canada, Singapore and Baku this year, prove that the Mercedes does well on fast street circuits. Could the Silver Arrows be a wildcard in the desert?
A rising star ready for his moment?
All eyes will be on Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, who showed remarkable pace and maturity beyond his years at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Finishing a superb second in both the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix in São Paulo, the young driver could be a very real threat in the coming races.
Mercedes’ pace at street circuits paired with his raw speed means Antonelli could be a dark horse in this race. Could the most spectacular stage be where the young Italian claims his first Grand Prix win?
