MotoGP Recap: Everything That Happened as MotoGP Returned to Valencia for the 2025 Season Finale

The 2025 MotoGP season came to a thrilling conclusion this weekend at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo for the Motul Grand Prix of the Valencian Community. It was an emotional return to the circuit, following the devastating floods that impacted the area in 2024, and the paddock showed its appreciation for the strength of the local community across the weekend, whilst providing fans with racing that did not disappoint.

Alex Marquez wins final Sprint of 2025

After the top five riders in Q2 were separated by just 0.096 seconds, Saturday’s Sprint was proving difficult to predict, but it was Alex Marquez who took his third Sprint victory of the season. Despite a brilliant start from Acosta on the second row, the KTM rider couldn’t quite manage a pass on Marquez’s Ducati, and had to settle for 2nd, whilst a late battle with Raul Fernandez saw Fabio Di Giannantonio claim 3rd.

Pre-race incident sees Morbidelli out of Valencia test

Sunday’s MotoGP race saw drama before the lights went out, as Franco Morbidelli crashed into the back of Aleix Espargaro’s bike after the warm up lap, as he was riding to his grid position. Morbidelli was able to wheel his Ducati to the pitlane, where he started the race, but later retired. It has since been confirmed by the Pertamina Enduro VR46 MotoGP Team that during the incident, Morbidelli sustained a fracture in his left hand, and is therefore ruled out of participating in Tuesday’s test.

Bezzecchi claims Aprilia’s first back-to-back Grand Prix victories in MotoGP

Marco Bezzecchi’s form was unmatchable during Sunday’s Grand Prix, once again leading every lap of the race, and giving Aprilia their first ever back-to-back wins in MotoGP. Aprilia’s celebrations continued as Trackhouse MotoGP Team’s Raul Fernandez battled from 4th on the grid to finish 2nd, marking Aprilia’s first 1-2 finish since the 2023 Catalan Grand Prix. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished his season with a double podium, finishing 3rd in the Grand Prix following an overtake on Pedro Acosta with two laps to go. A strong weekend for Bezzecchi saw him secure 3rd in the MotoGP World Championship, behind the two Marquez brothers.

Diogo Moreira wins Moto2 World Championship

An 11th place finish was enough for Diogo Moreira to claim the Moto2 World Championship, becoming Brazil's first World Champion in motorcycle racing. Moreira’s Championship is the biggest comeback in Moto2 history, having been 61 points behind after the French Grand Prix. Going into the final round, Manuel Gonzalez knew that clinching the title from Moreira would be a difficult task, given his points advantage, but an issue during the race saw Gonzalez’s 2025 title hopes fade for good as he rode down pit lane with four laps remaining. 3rd in the Moto2 World Championship went the way of Barry Baltus, who ended the season with a five point advantage over Aron Canet. Canet was given a double long lap penalty during Sunday’s race for causing an incident that ended the races of both Baltus and Daniel Muñoz before the end of the first lap.

Ahead of the riders embroiled in the title fight, Izan Guevara led into the first corner and held a commanding lead over polesitter Daniel Holgado. An intense last lap saw Guevara and Holgado riding wheel to wheel, but a moment at Turn 11 for Holgado meant Guevara had a clear run to take his first win in the Moto2 class.

Adrian Fernandez secures first Moto3 Grand Prix victory

Starting from pole position, Adrian Fernandez controlled the race well to achieve his first victory in the Moto3 World Championship, after initial scuffles with Maximo Quiles, David Almansa, Taiyo Furusato, and Alvaro Carpe, with the latter two joining Fernandez on the podium. Angel Piqueras claimed 2nd in the Championship with a 6th place finish in Sunday’s race, with Quiles finishing 3rd, despite missing four race weekends - a phenomenal achievement.

With the final races completed, MotoGP bids a fond farewell to Miguel Oliveira and Somkiat Chantra, as they move to the WorldSBK paddock for 2026, and welcomes two World Champions onto the grid - Diogo Moreira and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu.

Though the 2025 MotoGP season may be over, the on-track action doesn’t stop for long, with the first of the 2026 season tests taking place on Tuesday.
