This summer’s Silverstone Festival (22–24 August) will mark Formula 1’s 75th anniversary in spectacular style with the unveiling of the World Champions Collection – an incredible display of Grand Prix cars driven by every single F1 World Champion since the series began at Silverstone in 1950.
Over the past 75 years, British drivers have been a dominant force in the sport. Ten of the 34 World Champions to date have hailed from either England or Scotland – more than any other country. Brazil and Germany follow, each with three title winners.
The tribute begins with Mike Hawthorn, Britain’s first World Champion in 1958. His historic victory will be honoured with a scarlet Ferrari 246, the last front-engined car to win a World Championship.
The rear-engined revolution soon followed, ushering in a golden era for British drivers and teams. In 1962, Graham Hill became the first Briton to claim the title in a British car. His B.R.M. P-578, affectionately known as ‘Old Faithful’, will make a special transatlantic journey from the Revs Institute in Florida to take pride of place at the Festival.
The next year, Jim Clark began his legendary partnership with Lotus and founder Colin Chapman, securing the first of his two titles. Clark’s dominance in 1963 will be celebrated with the presence of his all-conquering Lotus 25 R4, the car in which he won all seven of his Grands Prix that season.
Clark’s two title-winning seasons were separated by another milestone: John Surtees’s historic F1 title in 1964. Already a seven-time World Motorcycle Champion with MV Augusta, Surtees became the only man to win World Championships on both two and four wheels. To honour this unprecedented achievement, one of his championship-winning MV Augusta motorcycles will also feature in the Collection.
Sir Jackie Stewart, Britain’s fourth World Champion, claimed the first of his three titles in 1969 with Matra-Ford. His subsequent victories with Tyrrell further solidified his legacy. The Tyrrell-Ford 006 from his 1973 championship season will proudly be on display. The 2025 Silverstone Festival will also support Stewart’s pioneering charity, Race Against Dementia.
One of the most remarkable British F1 triumphs came in 2009 when Jenson Button captured the title in a fairy-tale season for the fledgling Brawn team. His actual championship-winning BGP 001 will stir memories of that sensational one-off campaign.
Also featured will be standout F1 cars raced by Britain’s remaining four champions: James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, and Lewis Hamilton – completing a stunning tribute to British excellence in Formula 1. Those cars will be confirmed shortly.
“Britain and Silverstone have such strong links with Formula 1 and we will be celebrating those in sensational style at the Festival this summer,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “The World Champions Collection will be the most comprehensive celebration of F1’s 75th anniversary at the circuit where it all began. Never before has such a complete collection of title winners been assembled for all to enjoy. This is an extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and not to be missed.”
For those eager to witness this unparalleled display, a wide range of tickets is now available—including camping and hospitality options. The best prices are available for those booking early.
