In more great news, Team Lotus is the latest legendary F1 team to join the one-off World Champions Collection at this summer’s Silverstone Festival (22–24 August).

Celebrating 75 years of Formula 1 at the very circuit where the historic series began in 1950, this special display – running over the end-of-summer Bank Holiday weekend – will feature F1 cars raced by all 34 World Champions to have claimed the sport’s ultimate prize. Most of these are the actual championship-winning cars themselves!

Alpine, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams have already confirmed their support for the showcase, contributing title-winning cars driven by illustrious champions including Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Fernando Alonso, Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Now, four of Colin Chapman’s innovative Lotus title winners have been added to the World Champions Collection to represent Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Mario Andretti, the last two of these kindly loaned by Classic Team Lotus.

The great Jim Clark was intrinsically linked with Team Lotus in its formative years, winning titles in 1963 and 1965. His legacy will be honoured by the iconic Lotus 25/R4, the car in which he claimed his first crown.

As ever with pioneering Team Lotus, the 25 was revolutionary – it was F1’s first fully stressed monocoque chassis. In Clark’s masterful hands, it won 14 Grands Prix between 1962 and 1965. Just nine chassis were built, with R4 being the most successful – Clark drove it to all seven of his victories in 1963 including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone (photo below top - credit Silverstone Museum/BRDC Archive).

Equally game-changing the Lotus 72 introduced the wedge shape enabled by  the side-mounted radiators. It raced for an extraordinary six seasons and carried Jochen Rindt (photo below bottom left – credit Silverstone Museum/BRDC Archive) and Emerson Fittipaldi (photo below bottom right – credit Classic Team Lotus) to their titles in 1970 and 1972, respectively. Actual Lotus 72s from both championship seasons will be on display – one in Gold Leaf colours and the other in the iconic JPS livery.

Rindt remains the only driver to have won the championship posthumously. At just 25, Fittipaldi was the youngest ever World Champion at the time – a record he held for 33 years.

Another icon in the World Champions Collection will be Mario Andretti’s title-winning JPS Lotus 79 from 1978. Once again breaking new ground, the 79 was the first F1 car to win the championship using ground-effect aerodynamics (photo above - credit Classic Team Lotus).

Although Graham Hill won his 1968 championship with Team Lotus, he will be represented at Silverstone by the BRM P57 from 1962, in which he became the first British driver to win the World Championship in a British car.

“Celebrating all 34 World Champions to mark F1’s 75th birthday was an ambitious challenge that no one has ever attempted before,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “Now, the star-studded collection is not only nearly complete, but it also features an incredible number of title-winning cars. It’s going to be a truly special display that no fan of past or present Formula 1 should miss.”

Throughout the action-packed weekend, F1 fans will also enjoy four evocative retro races, reviving many of Grand Prix racing’s golden eras. The jam-packed on-track programme will also feature Group C sportscars, glorious historic GTs, and multiple generations of touring cars, promising crowd-pleasing showdowns all weekend.

Held over the end-of-summer Bank Holiday, the Festival is designed for all ages, and children aged 15 and under can attend for free when accompanied by an adult.

A wide range of tickets are available, including camping and hospitality options, with the best prices available to those booking in advance. All tickets provide access to an incredible line-up of family-friendly entertainment, including live music from Natasha Bedingfield, Craig David presents TS5, and Ministry of Sound Classical in 2025, plus traditional funfair rides, stunt shows, and much more.
