British GT at Silverstone: A unique experience
02 March 2026The British GT event at Silverstone has something for everyone: the gruelling demands of endurance racing, supercar spectacle and family-friendly entertainment.
In 2026, the UK’s premier GT championship returns to the Home of British Motor Racing with extra significance, as Silverstone hosts the season opener for the first time in over two decades.
From the launch of the season at Media Day to the headline Silverstone 500 and the return of Supercar Sunday, here’s what makes British GT at Silverstone a must-attend event.
What is British GT?
The British GT Championship is Britain’s leading sports car championship, bringing together professional and amateur drivers in some of the most sophisticated GT racing cars on the planet.
The thunderous GT3s are the stars of the show, then there’s the closely matched GT4s, which always produce superb on-track battles.
Races are long, strategies are sharp and the margin for error is slim, especially on Silverstone’s wide, fast layout which has a habit of delivering the unexpected.
For fans, British GT offers the perfect balance. High-speed racing, accessible paddocks, plenty of on-track action and an atmosphere that feels like one of our international events.
British GT Media Day at Silverstone
Before the racing begins, the season officially gets underway at Silverstone with British GT Media Day on Tuesday 31 March 2026.
This behind-the-scenes curtain-raiser sees teams and drivers hit the track for crucial pre-season running, shaking down cars and fine-tuning set-ups ahead of the opening round.
It’s a rare chance to see the championship come to life before points are on the line, with full grids, fresh liveries and a sense of anticipation building around the paddock.
Media Day tickets are valid for Tuesday, 31 March only and do not include access to the race weekend itself.

The Silverstone 500
The centrepiece of the weekend is the Silverstone 500, the opening round of the championship and the UK’s biggest GT race.

The 500’s brutal three-hour format demands as much from strategy as it does outright speed. Weather, safety cars and pitstop timing can transform the race in minutes, turning contenders into outsiders and outsiders into heroes.
Recent editions have delivered exactly that. A memorable performance came in 2024 from Jann Mardenborough and Chris Buncombe, who produced a stirring comeback from 17th on the grid to a class win and overall podium.
A historic season opener
The 2026 event marks the first time since 2001 that Silverstone has hosted the opening round of the British GT Championship.
With big points on offer and no prior form to lean on, the season opener brings a sense of reset across the grid, making it one of the most compelling rounds to watch.
Support racing all weekend long
British GT’s weekend bill is packed with support championships, ensuring near-constant on-track action between the main GT sessions.
Fans can enjoy races from the GB3 Championship, GB4 Championship, Ginetta GT Academy, Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship and Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship, adding huge variety and emerging talent by the bucket load to the timetable.
Supercar Sunday returns
Returning for 2026, this annual showcase puts some of the world’s most luxurious and eye-catching road cars on display, offering fans the chance to get up close with machines rarely seen in one place.
Owners can apply to display their cars, while spectators can enjoy the spectacle as part of their general admission experience, with upgrade options available for those looking to enhance their day.
